Welcome to grey highlands secondary school

On
March 8, people around the country will come together to celebrate International Women's Day 2024 in Canada. It's a global day organized annually that recognizes and celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

Every February, Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present.
People of African descent helped shape the cultural, legal, political, military, and athletic history of this country, creating the Canada that we know today.  Grey Highlands Secondary School will fly the Pan-African flag during the month of February to celebrate our Black Canadian community. The Pan African Flag was designed to represent the people of the African Diaspora and is a symbol of Black Pride. In the flag, the red represents the blood that has been shed throughout history by Black citizens around the world, the black represents the colour of their skin, and the green represents the richness of the land.  A culmination of celebration through assemblies with guest speakers will be taking place Thursday, February 29 2024.

Semester 2 begins on Monday, February 5, 2024.  Students are asked to look for their name posted outside the front office for their homeroom class.  Student timetables will be distributed by their homeroom teacher.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, originally and still colloquially known as Orange Shirt Day, is a Canadian holiday to recognize the legacy of the Canadian Indian residential school system.  The ECM flag symbolizes our recognition of Truth and Reconciliation, Secret Path Week and Treaties week during the month of October.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

We would like to welcome all returning and new students and their families to Grey Highlands Secondary School.  The first day of school for all students will be Tuesday, September 5th.  Students are reminded to check the lists in the front hall for their home form class where they will receive their timetable, locker information and other forms to bring home for parent/guardian signatures.  Students are also asked to please return any textbooks from previous years to the office.  We look forward to a wonderful year here at Grey Highlands.

GHANA FLAG RAISING

Ghana National day of Independence: In our continuing efforts to celebrate diversity and foster inclusion at Grey Highlands, this week we are celebrating Ghana’s national day of independence. On March 6, 1957 the then president of Ghana Kwame Nkrumah declared, "the African People are capable of managing their own affairs and Ghana our beloved country is free forever." Ghana was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve its independence from European colonial rule. We are flying the flag of Ghana this week at Grey Highlands SS to recognize our Ghanaian students and to celebrate with them this very important day.

March is International Women's Month and Grey Highlands Secondary School is celebrating women in the skilled trades! This month, we are supporting and empowering our female students in the Transportation Technology class who are discovering rewarding career pathways and training programs related to skilled trades. Our goal is to engage students and reach parents with the message that skilled trades provide rewarding career opportunities.

The art wall above was created by the students of GHSS with guidance from Art teacher, Kirsty Wilson and Mental Health Worker, Jenn Ottewell.  Each feather is personalized and tells a story. We are lucky to have such creativity at the Highlands!

October 23rd, 2020 Commencement tonight!

For the pick up of the diplomas, we will be sending a notification out to grads. We ask that you pull into the parking lot in front of the school and we will hand you your grad package or put it into your trunk. The date for this will be in November.

We wish all of our grads the very best and hope to hear about all of your successes!
